Wen Zhengming was a native of Changzhou (modern Suzhou in Jiangsu). Originally named Bi, Wen Zhengming later went by his style name Zhengzhong; he also had the sobriquets Hengshan jushi and Tingyunsheng. This exhibit is divided into two sections that demonstrate Wen Zhengming's calligraphy and paintings. The calligraphy section is further divided into "Development in Calligraphy" and "Calligraphy in Painting"; the painting section features four parts comprising "Development in Painting," "In the Style of the Ancients," "Same Subject, Several Versions," and "Birds-and-Flowers and Figures." By examining these sections, visitors will catch a glimpse of Wen Zhengming's painting and calligraphy mastery and style.
